Ilan Pappe
Ilan Pappe was born in Haifa in 1954, son of German Jews who fled Nazi persecution. As an historian specialized in the contemporary history of Israel, he is one of the most important and prolific authors on the Palestinian Question. His main thesis is that the origins of the conflicts lie in a Zionist project initiated in the 19th century. This project is nothing less than the expulsion of Palestinians from their lands, whatever the cost.
The graphic design for the collection was based on the author’s name, which is phonetically and graphically striking, occupying a large portion of the covers. To represent the Palestinian Question, the embroidery pattern, a symbolic element of its culture, was chosen as the guiding principle of the design. Each cover features a pattern that, converted to monochrome, covers the author’s name like a translucent veil. The patterns also eloquently mark the openings and the design of the interior pages, which follow a sober and functional typographic style.
